The instrument is a good example of Lewis’s work when he was in his second phase. The pipework is of outstanding quality being of spotted metal throughout, albeit of a variety that is soft due to the lack of trace elements, the reeds had collapsed very badly for example. The reed resonators have been repaired and straightened by our staff pipemakers, these tubes are now hung from the roof of the swell box to prevent further damage. We have carefully recaptured the original superb clear voicing by careful regulation, and where necessary, the re-setting of the lips and languids. The instrument sounds well from its chamfered position into the broad chancel and onto the wide nave with its magnificent roof. The original pneumatic action has been retained and re-set up to give the best performance possible within the constraints of its design. |
